Invisalign®

One of the major drawbacks of dental braces is that they aren’t that attractive looking, and especially for adults the idea of wearing metal braces for a long period of time is very unappealing, and that is exactly why Invisalign is something that a lot of adults have started using in recent years.

What Invisalign offers is a whole series of custom-made trays that help to align your teeth week by week and as your teeth continue to align you change in different filters to make sure your alignment is staying on track. So what happens is the dentist will change out your trays every few weeks or so and make sure everything is on track. One thing that a lot of people like about Invisalign is that you can take them out for certain situations so they aren’t necessarily permanent and you can decide when you are getting treatment and when you are treating yourself to your normal smile. The great part about it too is that over time you’ll still get amazing results while using Invisalign.

What are some of the bite problems that Invisalign helps to correct?

Invisalign does pretty much the same thing as regular dental braces and the only really difference with them is that you can’t really tell they are on your teeth when you are wearing them, and so here are some common ailments Invisalign helps to correct:

  • Overcrowding — this is what happens when some of your teeth are competing with each other for the same space inside your mouth and create a jumbled look with your smile, and this can also be bad in terms of tooth decay and gum disease
  • Crossbite — This is what happens when some of your teeth on your upper arch come down below and in front of your lower arch, and is a very common dental problem
  • Gaps in teeth — Sometimes there are gaps that occur in between teeth because your jaw has grown in an abnormal fashion
  • Overbite — This is the problem that happens when your upper arch bites down in front of your lower arch and can cause TMJ problems as well as other jaw pain over time
  • Underbite — This is what happens when your lower arch protrudes further than your upper arch and makes your chin stick out a little bit.

What are some of the advantages that Invisalign offers as opposed to traditional braces?

Each option for getting perfect alignment is all going to be a means to the same end, but of course it is important to consider the differences between things like Invisalign and traditional braces because there are differences in certain situations.

The main difference with Invisalign is that they are removable, and although this might require more commitment from the patient to wear their trays that still shouldn’t be too much of a problem because they are virtually unnoticeable and they do produce great results just like traditional braces do.

One great advantage of Invisalign as you compare to veneers is that Invisalign really does work to strengthen your natural teeth and the results are natural and last very long times just like traditional braces.

What does the treatment involving Invisalign entail?

The dentist will create a plan before he or she creates the custom trays, and once the dentist looks through the computer images and decides his or her course of path the aligners are made. Usually almost thirty sets per arch are needed with Invisalign and so it requires a lot of casting and switching out of aligners.

What are some things to consider while wearing an Invisalign tray?

It may take a little while for a lot of people to get used to wearing Invisalign trays, and that may be because of the fact that they are supposed to be worn all of the time except when you are eating and drinking. About every two weeks you will need to get or start wearing a new tray, and this new way of orthodontics has definitely been revolutionary.
